If you live in or around DeWitt, you've probably noticed more orange barrels than usual this fall. Three separate MDOT projects are affecting local drivers right now, and two of them meet at the same spot: the US-127 and I-69 interchange. Here's what's happening and when it's expected to wrap up.

The Real Pinch Point: US-127 and I-69
MDOT has been rebuilding US-127 between Lake Lansing Road and I-69 since March, with ramp closures at the I-69 interchange during the fall stage. In September, a separate I-69 patching project started at that same interchange and runs east toward Shiawassee County.
If your commute to Lansing, East Lansing, or points east uses that interchange, expect slower trips during the morning and late afternoon rush until mid-November.
US-127 Business Route Closure Near St. Johns
MDOT is replacing a culvert on US-127 Business Route between Centerline Road and Taft Road, near St. Johns. The road is fully closed in both directions. The posted detour uses Price Road, US-127, and M-21 to get back to US-127 Business Route.
If you head north to St. Johns for errands, plan on the detour adding some time to your trip through early November.
Tips for Getting Around DeWitt This Fall
- Check Mi Drive before you leave. MDOT updates closures there, and they can change week to week.
- If you can, run errands outside rush hour, when fewer people are moving through the work zones.
- Give yourself extra time on your first trip through a work zone, since ramp closures can shift during the project.
What Comes Next for US-127
Once this phase wraps up in November, MDOT plans to move on to rebuilding and realigning US-127 from I-496 to Lake Lansing Road. That's a bigger project, and it will affect Lansing and East Lansing commuters for several construction seasons. We'll share details as MDOT announces them.
